This week Historic Shipwreck Salvors, Blue Water Ventures Key West, Inc. uncovered a wealth of gold
and a unique sealed box which could exceed $1,000,000. It is the greatest find on the
Margarita site since Mel Fisher located the wreck in 1980. Today really was the day when the
crew of the Blue Water Ventures, joint venture partners of Mel Fishers Treasures working on the
Margarita shipwreck site, brought up a total of eight gold chains; two of which are over four
feet long! In addition, eleven ornate gold pieces, seven gold links, three very uniquely intricate
gold pieces, a gold bar and hundreds of other historic artifacts. The most intriguing piece is a
lead box with a half inch separation in its bottom seal, which reveals that there are pearls inside along with
other potentially valuable artifacts.
Thursday, June 14, 2007 the Blue Water Rose and its crew: Captain Greg Bounds, First Mate Tony Gill
and divers Mike Perna, Mike Dodd and Ace Ridgley will return to port with their treasure. They
will be arriving 10 a.m. at their dock on Stock Island in Key West where they will meet owner
Keith Webb along with friends, family and media in celebration of this historical find. The
treasure will be brought back to the Mel Fisher Headquarters to be cataloged and conserved. The
lead box will be conserved Thursday afternoon and there are plans to
open the box and reveal what it holds on Friday, June 15 at 2 p.m. in the conservation lab at
Mel Fishers Treasures.
